About Us

Women Who Work in Rural (WWWR) was originally founded as Women Who Work in Fieldsports (WWWF), born from an opportune meeting at The Game Fair between its three founders: Louisa Clutterbuck, Iona Campbell, and Vanessa Steel. What began as a shared recognition of the need for a dedicated space for women in the fieldsports industry quickly evolved into something much bigger.

From the outset, we saw the lack of visibility, connection, and support for women working within what is often a male-dominated and, at times, isolating environment. We set out to create a platform where women could come together, share experiences, celebrate successes, and openly discuss challenges. Crucially, we wanted to give a voice to the many women working tirelessly behind the scenes.

As the community grew, so too did its reach and purpose.

Today, Women Who Work in Fieldsports has evolved into Women Who Work in Rural (WWWR), a rebrand that reflects a broader, more inclusive mission. While fieldsports remain an important part of our heritage, the focus has expanded to champion women across the entire rural sector. From agriculture and conservation to equine industries, land management, rural enterprise, and beyond, WWWR celebrates the diversity, skill, and impact of women shaping rural life and business.

This shift acknowledges a clear and growing need: women are contributing to every corner of the rural economy, yet many still feel underrepresented and unheard. WWWR exists to change that, creating a platform that reflects the reality of modern rural work and ensures women feel seen, supported, and connected.

Since its inception, the organisation has hosted a variety of events, including its popular In Conversation series with inspiring speakers, as well as networking gatherings such as Christmas drinks and events at The Game Fair. These events continue to bring women together, fostering meaningful connections and shared learning.

WWWR has also launched a range of initiatives to support and empower its community. These include a monthly podcast featuring influential voices from across rural and related industries, alongside a growing webinar series covering practical and relevant topics such as maternity rights, resilience, finance and investing, marketing, business development, and wellbeing. Together, these initiatives aim to provide valuable insights, encourage collaboration, and build confidence among women navigating rural careers.

At its core, Women Who Work in Rural is about community, representation, and opportunity.

Louisa, Vanessa and Iona founded WWWR with the belief that by amplifying women’s voices, supporting one another, and creating space for connection, the sector as a whole will become stronger, more inclusive, and more representative of the people within it.

This isn’t about leaving the organisation’s roots behind, it’s about building on them. WWWR remains proud of its origins, while embracing a future that reflects the full breadth of rural industries today.
